Privacy policy
Torah Finder is brought to you by KeepItKosher.co. This policy covers the Torah Finder app and this website, torahfinder.app.
Who is responsible
KeepItKosher.co is responsible for the data described here (the “controller” under UK and EU data protection law). For any question or request, contact us through KeepItKosher.co.
What the app keeps on your phone
Your Sefer Torah profiles (names, photos, notes, calibration and where each scroll is open), your settings (language, transliteration, Israel or Diaspora, reminders) and, if you add one, your AI provider key. The key is kept in your phone’s secure storage. None of this leaves your phone unless you use one of the features below.
Features that send data
Photo scanning (optional)
- What is sent
- The photo of the column
- To whom
- The AI provider you choose (for example Anthropic, OpenAI or Google), using your own key. Their privacy policy applies.
- Why
- To read the text in the photo.
Share with your shul (optional)
- What is sent
- Your name and email; your shul’s name, city and country; the shared scroll profiles, including their photos
- To whom
- The Torah Finder server: torahfinder.app, run by KeepItKosher.co, or a server your shul runs itself (then your shul is responsible for it)
- Why
- So the gabbaim of your shul share the same scrolls and know who is sharing.
Approximate location (optional, one tap)
- What is sent
- Nothing. The check happens on your phone.
- Why
- To choose Israel or Diaspora readings.
Update check
- What is sent
- The app’s build number and platform (for example “build 12, Android”). Nothing that identifies you or your phone.
- To whom
- torahfinder.app
- Why
- To tell you when a new version is available. We also count, per day, how many checks each build makes, to know which versions are in use.
Backup
- What is sent
- A file you save yourself
- To whom
- Wherever you choose to keep it
- Why
- So you can restore your scrolls. AI keys are never included.
Your choices when sharing with your shul
These are separate, and each is off unless you turn it on:
- Show my email to the other gabbaim of this shul. If this is off, they see only your name.
- KeepItKosher.co may email me about Torah Finder and kosher news. You can withdraw this at any time by leaving the shul in the app, or with the unsubscribe link in any email.
- List this shul in the KeepItKosher.co directory (asked of the gabbai who creates the shul). The shul’s name, city and country, and the number of gabbaim using the app, may appear in the directory.
KeepItKosher.co uses only what you agreed to: listed shuls, and the name, email and shul of people who turned on emails. Shul codes are never shared.
This website
torahfinder.app sets no cookies for visitors and uses no analytics, advertising or third-party scripts. (The only cookies are on the owner’s sign-in pages under /admin.) The site is served through Cloudflare, which protects it and passes requests on to our server. Like any web server, it keeps standard logs (IP address, time and page requested), used only to keep the service running and secure.
When you download the app, we count the download: the date, which build, the country (as reported by Cloudflare), the website that linked to the download, and whether it came from a phone or a computer. No IP address or other identifier is stored with the count.
Keeping and deleting your data
Your name and email stay on the server while you share with your shul. Leave and delete my details (Settings → Share with your shul) deletes them straight away. Deleting a scroll in the app also removes it from your shul’s shared scrolls. To ask for a copy of your data, or for anything else to be deleted, contact us through KeepItKosher.co.
Lawful basis (UK and EU GDPR)
- Sharing with your shul: to provide the feature you asked for.
- Emails from KeepItKosher.co and the directory listing: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
You can also complain to your data protection authority; in the UK that is the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
Children
Torah Finder is not aimed at children under 13, and they should not use it to share personal details.

We will post any changes on this page and update the date above.
